GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Koh Samui, Thailand’s second largest island, lies in the Gulf of Thailand. It is known for its palm-fringed beaches, coconut groves and dense, mountainous rainforest, plus luxury resorts and posh spas. The landmark 12m-tall golden Big Buddha statue at Wat Phra Yai Temple is located on a tiny island connected to Koh Samui by a causeway.

Laem Yai is set on the Northwest tip of the island, a secluded beach popular with tourists.

LAMAI

Lamai is Samui's second beach town, south of Chaweng. The southern third of the beach has the widest strip of sand and is the best for swimming. It also has several restaurants and shops. The further north you go, the narrower and quieter the beach becomes, eventually becoming rocky towards the headland.

NATHON

Nathon is Koh Samui’s capital town. On Saturday evenings, Nathon’s seafront plaza transforms into a sprawling walking street. With a multitude of street food choices, it is a multi-block buffet interspersed with market stalls of local goods, clothes and some souvenirs.
