GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Shanghai French Quarter (上海法租界) was a foreign concession in Shanghai from 1849 until 1943. For much of the 20th century, the area remained the premier residential and retail district of Shanghai. It retains a colonial atmosphere, with leafy boulevards, boutique wine bars and French bakeries and bistros.
