GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Harbin is the capital of Heilongjiang, China’s northernmost province. The city grew in the late 19th century with the influx of Russian engineers constructing the eastern leg of the Trans-Siberian Railroad. The city's Russian architecture includes its green-domed Saint Sophia Cathedral.

Areas of the city such as Harbin's old quarter are made up of buildings that have been left untouched since the Russians left. Most of them are built in baroque or byzantine style with spires and cupolas and interesting shades of yellow, white, green, or red.

The Ice and Snow World is the Harbin International Ice and snow festival, which started at the end of 1999 in the banks of the Songhua River. It is held annually.

The Cathedral of the Holy Wisdom of God or Saint Sophia Cathedral in Harbin is a former Russian Orthodox church.

SIBERIAN TIGER PARK

The Siberian Tiger Park is located on the north bank of the Songhua River, in the northwest of Harbin, and occupies an area of 1,440,000 square meters (355.8 acres). It is the largest natural park for wild Siberian tigers in the world.

ST. ALEKSEYEV CHURCH

St. Alekseyev Church is located in the interchange of Gogol Street and Gexin Street in the Nangang District of Harbin, and was built during the Russo-Japanese War. The church was designed by the Russian architect Smirnov Rostov, and completed on October 6, 1935. It is affiliated with the Catholic Patriotic Association of Harbin.

ZHONGYANG DAJIE STREET

Zhongyang Dajie, known as the 'Eastern Moscow' Central Street', is a pedestrian only street that could serve as a perfect remnant of the bustling international business activities at the turn of the 20th century. The 1.4-km long street is a veritable museum of European architectural styles, including Baroque and Byzantine facades, Jewish architectural styles.
