GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Lake Titicaca is a large, deep lake in the Andes on the border of Bolivia and Peru. By volume of water and by surface area, it is the largest lake in South America. It is often called the "highest navigable lake" in the world.
FABIO'S REVIEW
The Titicaca lake is the highest navigable lake in the world. I have been hearing this funny name for years (as a kid I called it Pipicaca, French readers will understand) and wanted to visit it for so long… so, after many hours of bus and boat trips from La Paz, I finally arrived, to discover that the Titicaca lake is, in fact, just a lake.
LOCATIONS EXPERIENCED
ISLAS FLOTANTES
The floating islands of the uros are a set of habitable artificial surfaces built of totora, an aquatic plant that grows on the surface of Lake Titicaca . The islands stand on a portion of the surface of Lake Titicaca, overlap with blocks of Totora roots on which are laid successive layers of woven totora or interlaced mats.
