GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Puerto Madryn is in the north east of the Chubut Province in the Patagonia region of Argentina, on the shores of Gulfo Nuevo - a large, deep water bay of the Atlantic Ocean, where southern whales breed from May to December.
FABIO'S REVIEW
On your way down to Patagonia, I recommend stopping a couple of nights in Puerto Madryn: the city has no particular interest but a beach nearby (“El Doradillo”) has many large whales copulating near the shores in the morning. Watch my video "The Underworld" for some live footage.
LOCATIONS EXPERIENCED
PUERTO MADRYN CITY
Puerto Madryn city's sandy beaches and restaurant-lined promenade face Golfo Nuevo bay. Ecocentro is a clifftop museum with exhibits on Patagonian nature, and a lighthouse-style tower for ocean views. Across the bay is the rocky Valdes Peninsula, home to penguins and elephant seals.
