GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Cuenca (Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca) is a city in southern Ecuador’s Andes mountains. It is known for its Tomebamba River waterfront and handicrafts including Panama hats. Its central plaza, Parque Calderón, is home to the blue-domed Catedral Nueva and the 16th-century Catedral Vieja, now a religious museum. The Museo y Parque Arqueológico Pumapungo displays ruins and artifacts from the Incan city of Tomebamba.

CATHEDRAL INMACULADA CONCEPCION

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, commonly referred to as the New Cathedral of Cuenca, is the main cathedral church in Cuenca, Ecuador. It is situated in front of Parque Calderon.

CHURCH OF THE SHRINE

The Church of the Shrine, commonly referred to as the Old Cathedral of Cuenca, was the main place of Spanish worship during the time of Spanish colonization.

HISTORICAL CENTER

Cuenca's historical center consists of churches dating back to 16th and 17th century, small cobbled streets and colonial houses with noble facades, prim balustrades, wrought iron balconies and red tiled roofs.

PARQUE CALDERON

Parque Caledron has historical trees and memorial. On one side of the park stands the whitewashed ‘old cathedral,’ also known as El Sagrario.
