GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The town of Ubud, in the uplands of Bali, is known as a center for traditional crafts and dance. The surrounding rainforest and terraced rice paddies, dotted with Hindu temples and shrines, are among Bali’s most famous landscapes. Ancient holy sites include the intricately-carved Goa Gajah (“Elephant Cave”) and Gunung Kawi, with its rock-cut shrines.

The Balinese dance is an ancient dance tradition, dynamic, angular and intensely expressive, and is an integral part of the religious and artistic expression of Bali.

Goa Gajah, or Elephant Cave, is located near Ubud. Built in the 9th century, it served as a sanctuary.

The Ubud Monkey Forest is a nature reserve and Hindu temple complex. Its official name is the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary (""Padangtegal Mandala Wisata Wanara Wana"".

TEGALLALANG RICE TERRACES

The Tegallalang Rice Terrace is famous for its rice paddies involving the subak (the traditional Balinese cooperative irrigation system), which according to history, was passed down by a revered holy man named Rsi Markandeya in the eighth century.

The Ubud Palace, officially Puri Saren Agung, is a historical building complex situated in Ubud. The palace was the official residence of the royal family of Ubud.
