LOCATIONS EXPERIENCED
ESTEPONA
Estepona is a resort town on the Costa del Sol, in southern Spain. A palm-lined promenade, the Paseo Marítimo, runs next to the Playa de la Rada beach. Nearby are the restaurants and water sports facilities of Puerto Deportivo, plus a fishing port and the cove of Playa del Cristo. The whitewashed old town centers on the flower-filled square of Plaza de las Flores, home to the eclectic artworks of the Colección Garó.
LOS REALES DE SIERRA BERMEJA
The Sierra Bermeja (""red mountain"") is a mountain range with an average height of 1,000m (its highest point being 1,450m), covering 1,236ha. It is an area that has undergone major volcanic activity; rainwater has oxidised the iron and magnesium present in the rocks and the iron oxide has coloured the rock reddish-ginger - thus the name of this mountain range.
PYRENNEES (SPANISH SIDE)
The Pyrenees mountain range separates the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of Europe, stretching more than 430km between Spain and France and rising higher than 3,400m in elevation. Hiking trails traverse the entire length of the range and national parks offer shorter trails, while dozens of ski resorts can be found on both sides of the Pyrenees.
RONDA
Ronda is a mountaintop city in Spain’s Malaga province that is set dramatically above a deep gorge. This gorge (El Tajo) separates the city’s circa-15th-century new town from its old town, dating to Moorish rule. Puente Nuevo, a stone bridge spanning the gorge, has a lookout offering scenic views. New town’s Plaza de Toros, a legendary 18th-century bullring, is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.
