The Pak Ou, Tham Ting and Tham Theung caves overlook the Mekong River, 25 km to the north of Luang Prabang. The caves are noted for their miniature Buddha sculptures, as hundreds of small wooden Buddhist figures are laid out over the wall shelves; they assume many different positions, including meditation, teaching, peace, reclining (nirvana) etc.
