GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Dorsoduro is one of the six sestieri of Venice. It includes the highest land areas of the city and also Giudecca island and Isola Sacca Fisola. Its name derives from the Italian for "hard ridge", due to its comparatively high, stable land.

CA' REZZONICO

Ca' Rezzonico is a palace on the Grand Canal, in the Dorsoduro sestiere of Venice. Today, it is a public museum dedicated to 18th-century Venice and one of the 11 venues managed by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia.

CHIESA DEI CARMINI

Santa Maria dei Carmini, also called Santa Maria del Carmelo and commonly known simply as the Carmini, is a large catholic church in the sestiere of Dorsoduro in Venice.

CHIESA DI SANTA MARIA DELLA VISITAZIONE

Santa Maria della Salute (Saint Mary of Health), commonly known as the Salute, is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica located at Punta della Dogana in the Dorsoduro sestiere of Venice. It stands on the narrow finger of Punta della Dogana, between the Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal, at the Bacino di San Marco, making the church visible when entering the Piazza San Marco from the water.

GALLERIA PUNTA DELLA DOGANA - PALAZZO GRASSI

Palazzo Grassi is a palace built in the Venetian Classical style, located on the Grand Canal, between the Palazzo Moro and the campo San Samuele. The Palazzo Grassi and the Galleria Punta della Dogana are both contemporary art museum.

GIUDECCA

The island of Giudecca has a large promenade overlooking the lagoon, with several bars and restaurants. Molino Stucky, a flour mill turned luxury hotel, offers panoramic views from its rooftop bar. Nearby, the Palladio-designed Church of the Santissimo Redentore has an elegant interior, while the neo-Gothic Tre Oci palace showcases contemporary art.

Le Zattere is a long waterfront promenade that runs along the entire southern shore of Venice's Dorsoduro district, from the Marittima and San Basilio all the way to the Punta della Dogana.

MULINO STUCKY (HILTON)

The Hilton Molino Stucky hotel, located on the Giudecca island of Venice, is a historical, neo-gothic building once home to a grand flour mill.

PALAZZO ZENOBIO (COLLEGIO ARMENO)

Palazzo Zenobio is a monumental building, built in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century, by the Venetian noble family Zenobio. Since 1850, the building is owned by the Armenian Mekhitarist Fathers of Venice.

PONTE DELL'ACCADEMIA

The Ponte dell'Accademia is one of only four bridges to span the Grand Canal of Venice. It crosses near the southern end of the canal, and takes its name from the nearby Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia. The bridge links the sestieri of Dorsoduro and San Marco.

PUNTA DELLA DOGANA

Punta della Dogana is an art museum located in Venice's old customs building, the Dogana da Mar. It also refers to the triangular area of Venice where the Grand Canal meets the Giudecca Canal, and its historical buildings: Santa Maria della Salute, the Patriarchal Seminary of Venice, and Dogana da Mar itself.

SQUERI DI SAN TROVASO

The boatyard of San Trovaso is one of the oldest and most famous Venetian boatyards. A "squero" is a traditional yard where they built and repaired boats of limited size such as gondolas, pupparini, sandoli, sciopóni and other typical Venetian boats.
