Curitiba

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Curitiba is the capital of the southern Brazilian state of Paraná. Notable skyline features include the Panoramic Tower, with an observatory on top. Known as a cultural center, Curitiba is home to a number of performance venues, including the Wire Opera House, a structure of tubular steel with a transparent roof, and the huge Guaíra Theater, with diverse programs.

Curitiba was the first city I ever lived in Brazil (2015), as I reached it when crossing the border from Paraguay. It is a town with a distinct “European” flavor, reasonably priced and not too dangerous (for Brazilian standards).

After crossing jungles for weeks, I was happy to discover that Curitiba has more than 30 shopping malls, the best one being ""Shopping Estação"": it has almost 200 stores and restaurants! There are also a number of high-quality and relatively inexpensive hotels - I stayed in the Nikko, which had top class breakfast.

Tourist wise, there are very few attractions – the main one being the small botanical garden.

BOTANICAL GARDEN

The Botanical Garden of Curitiba is also known as the ""Jardim Botânico Fanchette Rischbieter"", is a park located in the city of Curitiba - the capital of the state of Paraná, and the biggest city in southern Brazil. It is the major tourist attraction and landmark of the city, and it houses part of the campus of the Federal University of Paraná.

HISTORICAL CENTER

The Historic Center of Curitiba (Centro Histórico de Curitiba) have narrow cobblestoned streets and old buildings dating back to the 18th century.

PRAÇA GENEROSO MARQUES AND CATEDRAL METROPOLITANA

Praça Generoso Marques is located in the very center of the city of Curitiba. The Square is surrounded by Art-nouveau buildings.

The Cathedral Basilica Minor of Our Lady of Light, also called Curitiba Cathedral, is a Catholic church in the city of Curitiba, in the state of Parana in Brazil.
