GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Tunis is situated on a large Mediterranean Sea gulf (the Gulf of Tunis), behind the Lake of Tunis and the port of La Goulette. It is home to a centuries-old medina and the Bardo, an archaeology museum where Roman mosaics are displayed in a 15th-century palace complex. The parklike ruins of ancient Carthage sit in the city’s northern suburbs.
