GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The “Pizzocchere”, in the 16th century, were women of different origins (widows, fallen noblewomen, former prostitutes etc.) who devoted their time in helping the poor, cleaning the churches, organizing funerals etc. They were usually affiliated with Christian organizations and hosted in this area of Venice.
