GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Punta Arenas is a city near the tip of Chile's southernmost Patagonia region. Located on the Strait of Magellan, which connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, it is often used as base for excursions to the surrounding wilderness and Antarctica. The Plaza Muñoz Gamero has a memorial to explorer Ferdinand Magellan, and the Museo Nao Victoria features a replica of one of his galleons.

CATEDRAL DE PUNTA ARENAS

The Sacred Heart Cathedral (also called Punta Arenas Cathedral and Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish), is a religious building of the Catholic Church which has a Renaissance tower that is dedicated to the order of the Salesians.

CEMETERY OF PUNTA ARENAS

The cemetery of Punta Arenas is the town's public cemetery. It has four hectares and is located in the northern area of the city, in Bulnes Avenue, between the streets Francisco Bilbao and Angamos.

CERRO MIRADOR

Cerro Mirador is located 8 km to the west of Punta Arenas city, on the Fenton hill, also known as Mirador hill. It offers a wonderful view of Punta Arenas.

ZONA FRANCA (DUTY FREE)

The Punta Arenas Free Zone is a Chilean commercial center located in the outskirts of town. It is one of the most important in Patagonia, both Chilean and Argentine. It has 53 hectares of land and hundreds of shops.
